Night Markets by Candlelight at St. Mary’s

As dusk settles and the last light fades through stained glass a new kind of market stirs. Within sacred stone and vaulted arches candles flicker and shadows dance. Soft strings echo through the air weaving music in every corner. This is not a hurried market this is a feeling, one that invites wonder and reflection, take in the beauty of your surroundings, engage with local creatives, shop mindfully. Night Markets by Candlelight welcome those who are drawn to creativity and calm. £2 (plus small booking fee) pre purchased tickets. Hourly timeslots to ensure a quiet calm shopping experience. Please don’t worry if you running late. Keelmen’s Hospital Community event

St. Mary’s Heritage Centre

Meet the design team behind the plans for the restoration of Keelmen’s Hospital, an eighteenth-century almshouse built for keelmen who worked transporting coal on small ships on the Tyne. This is a free community event to share a behind the scenes look at the planned works to revive this fascinating building, tickets are free but there will be the option to support the Trust’s work on this building and other historic sites in the region by becoming a member.

John Marley Centre- Past and Present

Visitors joined us for an afternoon at The John Marley Centre, a former 1930s secondary school and a present-day arts centre. They climbed our art deco tower, learned about the area’s fascinating history, and met the small businesses who make it their home today.

Friday 13th graveyard tour

Supported by some wonderful volunteers, historian of the North East, Doctor Katie Liddane delivered guided tours our graveyard, telling you all about the site’s long – and sometimes dark – history and its strong connections with the wider region.
